Famous for the Dixie Sternwheeler and monster-sized muskies, WebsterLake is an attractive aquatic destination for visitors and new residents alike. Conservation and stocking efforts keep WebsterLake, located in the town of North Webster, listed as one of the best lakes in Indiana.
Created out of seven smaller deep ponds and lakes when a dam was built in 1837, WebsterLake is 774 acres of pure muskie fishing fun. Stocked with muskies since 1980, the lake is known to have many of this fish that weigh up to 42 pounds. The lake has an average of seven adult muskies per acre and every year one lucky fisher pulls a muskie out of its waters that measures over 40 inches. These incredible muskie catching opportunities are all the result of the locals’ practices in catch and release.
Fishers access through a DNR ramp located on BackwaterLake, attached to WebsterLake via channel, just off of SR 13 in North Webster. WebsterLake is also the site of EpworthForest, operated by the UnitedMethodistChurch. A marl bottom lies at the lakes maximum depth of 75 feet and at is average depth of 20 feet. Besides world-famous muskies, the lake also has its share of largemouth bass, bluegills, crappies and sunfish.
WebsterLake is under constant care from the Webster Lake Conservation Association, which works continuously to prevent uncontrolled aquatic vegetation and other issues that would harm the lake. This organization’s work not only preserves the beauty and quality of the lake, but also preserves housing values that are tied to the lake’s intrinsic qualities.
A notable landmark for LakeWebster is the Dixie Sternwheeler, which has been operating on the lake for the past 94 years and offers a variety of excursions for visitors and hosts a number of regular events.
